Youth Make a Difference by Volunteering!
Applications for The Incredible Exchange, a program sponsored by St. Louis County and University of Minnesota Extension, will be accepted now through April 15 for summer 2009 participation. The Incredible Exchange is provided for youth ages 12-15 to volunteer in their community in exchange for an activity of their choice, such as a ski or golf pass, dance, music or
horse back riding lessons. Participants volunteer at "exchange sites" such as community centers, nursing homes and hospitals. Upon completion of the program which consists of 25-50 volunteer hours, the participant receives an Exchange Credit Certificate, redeemable for their chosen activity, as well as the skills learned through their volunteer experience. The program is designed to instill a life-long commitment to volunteerism in area youth and to provide a meaningful community learning experience. Applications have been mailed to all area schools. Youth can also obtain an application by calling the St. Louis County Extension office at 733-2876, or print an application from the web site.
