What is Operation Identification?
Operation Identification (or Operation I.D.) is a program by which a resident can mark their personal property in their homes or cabins in the hopes that it could be identified should the property ever be lost or stolen. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office offers the use of the Operation I.D. program to all residents within the jurisdiction of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
Application for a unique identification number can be made at the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office nearest you and an engraving tool will be loaned to the applicant free of charge. After the applicant engraves the unique number on all items they wish to protect, the list of those items can either be kept only by the owner or can be registered at the Sheriff’s Office.
