Dr. Thomas Uncini of Lakeland Pathology, P.A. is the current Chief Medical Examiner and has been since 1998.  He is a Board Certified Pathologist.

There are two Deputy Medical Examiner’s:  Dr. Donald Kundel and Dr. Janice Ophoven.  They are also Board Certified as Forensic Pathologists. 

There are currently five part-time Medical Examiner Investigators and one full-time Investigator.  The Investigators work either the northern or southern part of St. Louis County. 

• The northern half of St. Louis County is served by the Hibbing Branch of the Medical Examiner’s Office, which is located in the Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing. 
• The southern half of St. Louis County is served by the Duluth Branch of the Medical Examiner’s Office which is located at the University of Minnesota – Duluth Medical school.  The full-time Medical Examiner Investigator is Kolleen Kennedy, RN.  She works out of the Duluth Branch.
