What does the VINE System do?

The Minnesota State Victim Notification Service (VINE) is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone or internet to search for information regarding their offender's custody status and register to receive telephone and email notification when their offender's custody status changes.  This service is brought to you by Sheriff Ross Litman.  The VINE Toll Free Number for MN VINE is 1.877.664.8463.

How can I find out if someone is currently in prison in the State of Minnesota?

An Offender Locator search can be used to retrieve public information about adult offenders who have been committed to the Minnesota Commissioner of Corrections, and who are still under their jurisdiction (i.e. in prison, or released from prison and still under supervision).

How can I find out if someone is currently in a federal prison?

The Federal Bureau of Prisons is responsible for the custody and care of sentenced Federal inmates, as well as a significant number of pretrial detainees and pre-sentenced offenders for the U.S. Marshals Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The Bureau also has custodial responsibility for District of Columbia felons sentenced to terms of imprisonment.
