The Transportation Division is tasked with the duty of prisoner transportation. Prisoners are transported to and from various jails and correctional facilities as well as to and from various court appearances. The Transport Deputies travel everyday from the St. Louis County Jail to the Duluth Courthouse seven miles away. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday the Transport Deputies travel to the Hibbing and the Virginia Courthouses 75 miles and 60 miles from the St. Louis County Jail respectively.
On the days that the Transport Deputies are not driving prisoners to District Court they are driving through out Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa picking up people that get arrested on various warrants.
The Sheriff's Office is also mandated by State Statute to deliver into the custody of the Commissioner of Corrections those individuals that have been found guilty by a Judge or jury.
