There are many facets of the Sheriff's Office. The day to day activities are handled by many employees. These employees are managed and supervised by the:
Sheriff
The sheriff is elected by the people.
Minnesota State Statute 387.03.; the sheriff shall keep and preserve the peace of the county and may require aid of such persons as the power of the county as the sheriff deems necessary;
The sheriff shall pursue and apprehend all felons, execute all processes, writ and orders issued or made by lawful authority delivered to the sheriff.
The sheriff shall have charge and custody of the county jail and receive all persons lawfully committed thereto and not release any person there from unless discharged by due course of law.
The sheriff shall:
- Manage law enforcement functional activities.
- Administer the County corrections operations.
- Monitor budgets for all divisions of the Sheriffs Office.
- Develop departmental budget.
- Manage the County civil defense program.
Undersheriff
This person works under the direct authority of the sheriff and is in fact the sheriff in the absence of the elected sheriff.
Supervising Deputies
A supervising deputy is in charge of a main office, there are three main offices,
The supervising deputies are responsible for supervising and coordinating civil and law enforcement activities of their assigned area.
