Did you know:

  • 91.3 percent of 911 calls made in 2007 were answered within 1-5 seconds. 
  • This accounts for more than 115,522 calls answered by the Duluth call center and 34,335 calls answered by the Virginia call center.
  • Of the 115,522 calls to Duluth, 97.4% were answered in less than 10 seconds. 
  • Of the 34,335 calls to Virginia, 97.5% were answered in less than 10 seconds.
  • St. Louis County 911 serves 180 jurisdictions with law enforcement, emergency medical services, ambulance and fire. 
  • The County maintains two emergency communications centers in order to always have a back--up should the main call office be unavailable due to technical difficulties.


About the 911 System

9-1-1 Wallet Card

The 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Department operates and maintains the County's Public Safety Answering Points [PSAP] (Duluth & Virginia), rural addressing functions, and many county-wide public safety radio communications networks. These elements combine to form the "9-1-1 System" which provides coordinated law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services to all St. Louis County residents.

The 9-1-1 Division answers more than 274,651 requests for assistance annually dispatches 185 public safety agencies and functions as the central point of coordination for all county emergency warning services.

The Radio Maintenance Division designs, installs and maintains all County radio communications systems.
