The Fifth Maintenance District encompasses the area bordered approximately by US Hwy 53, Minnesota State Hwy 33 and the St. Louis River on the West side. The Carlton County line, St. Louis River, St. Louis Bay, and Lake Superior's North shore to the South. The Lake County line to the East and a line from the Lake County line near Pequaywan Lake going West through the rugged wooded terrain back to US Hwy 53 to the North.
The 5th district maintains 757 miles of road
