ACT (Assertive Team Treatment) and TACT (Transitional Assertive Community Treatment, previously known as KATS) in Duluth have clinical team leaders, substance abuse specialist, vocational specialist, nurses, psychiatrists, along with case managers to meet ACT standards. The teams have reorganized into a 10 member Duluth ACT Team and a 7 member TACT Team. TACT serves people ages 18-25. ACT serves people 26 and older. The Human Development Center, State of Minnesota, Life House, and Center on Alcohol and Drug Treatment are participating with the Duluth ACT Team.
The Mesabi ACT Team serves consumers in the Quad City Area (Virginia, Eveleth, Mt. Iron, and Gilbert) or a radius of about fifteen miles. The Range Mental Health Center, Arrowhead Inc., and Occupational Development Center contract with our department for staff on the Mesabi ACT Team. The Mesabi Team is staffed with a clinical team leader, a psychiatrist, nurses, along with case managers to meet ACT standards.
ACT objectives include reducing psych unit admits, reducing chemical abuse treatment, and preventing incarceration. ACT Teams are to see each consumer a minimum of two times a week, there is a psychiatrist attending team meetings and seeing consumers sixteen hours a week per fifty consumers.
Our ACT Teams are the department’s first enterprise venture. Each team has its own budget, and each team must generate enough revenue to fund itself or it will not continue past 2005. Mesabi team is Minnesota’s first rural ACT provider.
