Tobacco-Free CoalitionsCoalitions in NE MN dedicated to preventing youth from beginning to use tobacco. Youth in NE MN use tobacco more than the state average. Current efforts include educating about the hazards secondhand smoke; and encouraging the creation of tobacco-free parks and smoke-free indoor environments. Contacts:
Northeast Minnesota Obesity Prevention ProjectCarlton, Cook, Lake and St. Louis Counties are working with University of Minnesota Extension to enhance the walkability and bikeability of the region. Partnering with the Arrowhead Regional Development Commision, we are improving the walking and biking routes in Two Harbors and around five Duluth schools (Congdon Park, Lester Park, Lincoln Park, Laura MacArthur and Stowe) with the lowest percent of students who are bused. Bridge to Health CollaborativeA Minnesota - Wisconsin health improvement effort that has worked together on region-wide health status surveys in 1995, 2000 and 2005.
