St. Louis County and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to Jointly Announce the New Public Water Access on Lake Vermilion’s Moccasin Point

October 13, 2008

The St. Louis County Board and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Trails & Waterways, will celebrate the opening of a new public water access on Moccasin Point on Lake Vermilion, the crown jewel of recreational lakes in Northern Minnesota. The event is scheduled for Monday, October 13, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Moccasin Point landing in Greenwood Township.

Joining St. Louis County Commissioners and Board Chair Mike Forsman, will be Senator Tom Bakk of Cook, Representative David Dill of Orr, and DNR officials. “The importance of securing public access to Lake Vermilion cannot be overemphasized,” said Senator Bakk. “With private development creating great interest in Lake Vermilion, this public water access is essential to the assurance of quality recreational opportunities for the residents of St. Louis County and our region, now and for future generations.”

Moccasin Point can be found by traveling north from Virginia.  Take Hwy 169 toward Tower to the “Y” Store at the intersection of County Road 77 and Highway 169.  Turn left onto County Road 77 and follow #77 for approximately 9 miles to its end at the Lake Vermilion Access Point.
