St. Louis County is self-insured for tort liability.  This results in substantial taxpayer savings each year.  The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office is responsible for all litigation including property damage and personal injury actions.  The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office Civil Division is responsible for such litigation and has developed expertise in many areas of such litigation including litigation pertaining to its jail lockup and correction facilities, its road system, the lands it is responsible for managing, and the actions and omissions of its 2000+ employees.
