St. Louis County Celebrates National County Government Week

April 18 - 24 is National County Government Week, where the many and vital services proved by counties are celebrated.

*County transportation systems are a key part of the economic engine that drives this country. County highways, roadways and bridges help move people and products.

*Counties provide public safety through 9-1-1 emergency communications, Sheriff’s patrol, and courts, probation, and corrections services.

*Counties provide medical and nursing home care. Social services offer help to the elderly, disabled, and the needy.

*County public health initiatives have extended life expectancies and made homes, communities and populations healthier.

*County solid waste services help keep our natural environment clean.

*Counties provide voting, recording, and assessment services. They maintain and develop lands.

*Counties encourage economic development by identifying and facilitating community projects.

*When natural or man made disasters strike, counties are there to keep families and communities safe until order may be restored.

*County officials and employees use their roles as local leaders to improve the lives of their citizens and make their communities more livable. County governments are the citizen’s local government voice.

In recognition of the leadership, innovation and valuable service provided by our nation’s counties, St. Louis County Board of Commissioners joins other counties celebrating April 18 - 24 as National County Government Week.
